What to do when a scale set build agent isn't communicating with Azure DevOps
Microsoft MVP Mike Stephenson recently addressed a problem that arose when he set up a VM Scale Set, registered as a self-hosted build agent for Azure DevOps. However, it soon stopped setting up builds and communicating.
Stephenson found that when running Terraform an important tag was left out so that DevOps stopped recognizing the scale set as the build agent. Sometimes problems crop up for different reasons. If the tag gets added before the DevOps agent pool, DevOps interprets the scale set as already registered with an agent pool and prevents users from adding it.
