FedEx to integrate data with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Intelligent Order Management

FedEx and Microsoft have announced plans to integrate FedEx data with Dynamics 365 Intelligent Order Management.

Microsoft and FedEx announced their supply chain logistics partnership plans in May 2020, including the solution FedEx Surround, which aimed to provide "near real-time analytics into shipment tracking" with fine-grained location data to improve logistics and inventory management

The companies say the new plans will increase data and visibility from the FedEx network for  solutions built on the Microsoft cloud. The new integration, which the companies expect to deliver to customers in the U.S. in the second half of 2022, aims to provide vendors with a platform that will give their customers "more integrated ways to shop, and faster, more efficient deliveries" while integrating with existing e-commerce platforms, according to a statement from Microsoft.

Microsoft introduced Dynamics 365 Intelligent Order Management (IOM) in March 2021 as a cloud-based service that supports order intake, fulfilment, and delivery and provides an event-driven orchestration service that can coordinate across connected systems. It uses a low-code model built primarily on Power Platform. IOM is not dependent on Dynamics 365 ERP solutions. It reached GA in August 2021. It includes pre-built connectors for the service that included indirect tax provider Vertex, e-commerce vendors Magento and BigCommerce, and supply chain solution vendor Korber.
