Microsoft is acquiring ReFirm Labs to boost its firmware analysis and security capabilities for servers, IoT, and edge devices.

To date, ReFirm has created the Binwalk open-source software used to analyze a wide-range of device types, spotting unpatched vulnerabilities, insecure secrets and other problems affecting plugin IoT devices and firmware.

The announcement comes on the heels of Microsoft's acquisition of CyberX, and will add to the capabilities of Azure Defender for IoT.
