For Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement online customers who have been avoiding the calls to update their old Outlook integration, the time has come. Microsoft has deprecated the Outlook COM Add-in, the software that was used to integrate Dynamics CRM and older versions of Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement apps with Outlook. Support will end completely on October 1, 2020.

Starting in October, only the newer Dynamics 365 App for Outlook will be supported, wrote Sid Gundavarapu of Microsoft. The modern app supports the Unified Interface, global search, and dashboards. It is also available across Windows, Mac desktop, Android, and iOS.

This isn't the first time Microsoft has announced a deprecation of the older Outlook add-in. The Dynamics team tried and failed to deprecate it in the 2017 to 2018 timeframe. Feature gaps at the time led to a reversal of that plan.

But blog readers had questions about whether the deprecation of the old add-in mean that longstanding gaps in the newer app had been filled.
