Microsoft Talks Commerce, New Dynamics AX for Retail at NRF 2016 BIG Show

Microsoft Dynamics AX takes its place among the Microsoft's retail offerings on display at the NRF 2016 BIG Show. With its updated brand name, the new Dynamics AX for Retail and Commerce, as it is now called, will incorporate updates around mobile apps, multi-channel commerce, and call center integration with its existing retail features like POS, store management, and operational management.

And as part of the "New Dynamics AX" (formerly known as ‘AX 7') release expected later this quarter, it will lean on features of the new Dynamics AX like workspaces and Power BI integration.

"With the new Dynamics AX for Retail and Commerce solution, we've made it easier for retailers to deliver a seamless Unified Commerce experience across all customer touch points, channels and device," wrote Microsoft general manager of Dynamics retail and commerce solutions Ashvin Mathew.

The "Commerce client" includes the AX Point of Sales (POS) and can be deployed on a device or in the cloud with browser-based access. And retailers will be able to deploy other mobile business applications to in-store employees to engage with customers, according to Mathew.

The Dynamics AX Retail and Commerce solution also "facilitates" e-commerce experiences that span online stores, call centers, and social channels, according to Microsoft. Some scenarios include:

  • Tying together multiple catalogs
  • Pricing and promotion management
  • Omni-channel shopping carts with secure payment processing
