Migrating on-prem apps to Azure: Winning models and the next opportunity

As recently as five or 10 years ago, on-premises applications were the norm in most organizations, while cloud remained a novel innovation, still unfamiliar to many. But those days are now behind most organizations. Cloud has triumphed through its rapid scalability, improved security, cost savings, flexibility, and, to be fair, relentless marketing. Nevertheless, numerous on-prem apps remain in-service and amidst the lockdowns due to Covid-19 many companies seem to be considering the positioning and access of their apps, with further interest in rehosting to the cloud.

MSDW spoke with Azure professionals about what organizations can expect when evaluating a potential migration of on-prem apps to the Microsoft cloud. How straightforward is it? Do gaps remain?
