UK government inks three-year Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft

April 21 2021

The UK government signed a three-year memorandum of understanding with Microsoft, dubbed Digital Transformation Arrangement 2021 (DTA21). The agreement encompasses products like Azure Arc, Synapse and Cognitive Services, as well as Teams, Power Platform, Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365. As part of the agreement, Microsoft will provide both Premier and Unified Support services for public sector organizations and new customers. Additionally, it will also provide Solution Assessments, Technical Skills for Business and implementation assistance through the FastTrack and Azure Migration programs.

Working with Microsoft, the UK government has increasingly emphasized cloud services since it adopted its Cloud First policy in 2013. Building on the UK's One Government Cloud Strategy and the Digital Data and Technology strategy, the agreement is intended to improve digital capabilities and assist the country during its recovery from Covid-19.

"This agreement recognises the significance of cloud computing to the UK public sector as it continues its digital transformation and aims to build back better. It is another example of CCS’s commitment to achieving outstanding commercial value for our customers across the public sector," stated Philip Orumwense, Commercial Director and Chief Technology Procurement Officer at Crown Commercial Service.

"This new agreement with Microsoft builds on the Government’s One Government Cloud Strategy, which supports the key principle of treating government as one single customer. It shows the Government’s determination to drive transformation as well as adopt value for money technologies that improve services and ensure government departments and their staff have the digital tools they need, now and in the future," said Gareth Rhys Williams, the Government Chief Commercial Officer.
