The second Ignite event of 2021 is now behind us. Microsoft Director of Program Management Asad Khan recapped some of the top database messaging from the event. Together with updates for SQL and Cosmos DB, the preview of SQL Server 2022 took center stage. He wrote:

Azure is the best destination for SQL Server, and more and more customers are running SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines. Recently, we’ve added new and improved SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines marketplace images. The new images have updated configurations to adhere to the latest best practices, along with a new deployment experience that allows you to customize settings, such as MAXDOP and collation, according to your needs. Even more, SQL Assessments have arrived in preview so you can keep your SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machine healthy. You can schedule assessments, run an assessment on-demand, and view assessment results directly from the SQL virtual machine blade in the Azure portal.

Microsoft touted its upcoming Azure IaaS Day on Wednesday, November 17. The event is expected to include service deep dives, solution demos, and case studies from PUMA, Procter & Gamble, and Jellyfish Pictures, as well as extensive Q&A opportunities. The event will also feature discussion of the AZ-700 exam and the recently offered VM selector.

In theme with the OCP Global Summit, Microsoft shared the ways the company has contributed to open source programs.
