Electronic health records company, Epic, announced an integration with Azure OpenAI Service. The announcement builds on an existing strategic partnership between the two companies with the goal of better integrating AI into health records. An initial pilot to automatically draft message responses is in place with UC San Diego Health, UW Health, and Stanford Health Care.

Many US hospitals closed out 2022 with labor shortages, prompting a heightened demand for productivity tools. Epic is also adding natural language query and data analytics capabilities to SlicerDicer, its self-service reporting tool.

"The urgent and critical challenges facing healthcare systems and their providers demand a comprehensive approach combining Azure OpenAI Service with Epic's industry-leading technology. Our expanded partnership builds on a long history of collaboration between Microsoft, Nuance and Epic, including our work to help healthcare organizations migrate their Epic environments to Azure. Together we can help providers deliver significant clinical and business outcomes leveraging the power of the Microsoft Cloud and Epic,” stated Eric Boyd, corporate vice president, AI Platform, Microsoft.
