Microsoft timed a string of announcements with Mobile World Congress 2024 related to new cloud and AI capabilities for customers.

Microsoft premiered updates for Azure Operator Nexus, offering carriers a way to use a single carrier-grade platform for edge and near-edge tasks. Microsoft customer Etisalat is using Operator Nexus in a bid to lower its total cost of ownership.

Microsoft also announced Copilot in Azure Operator Insights, a network-operator focused offering with generative AI capabilities built-in intended to help resolve network problems quickly. 3UK has started using these Copilot capabilities to develop intelligence around network health and customer experience.

“An average operator spends 20% of annual revenue on capital expenditures. However, this investment does not translate into an equivalent increase in revenue growth. Operators need to empower their service teams with data-driven insights to increase productivity, enhance care, use conversational AI to enable self-service, expedite issue resolution and deliver frictionless customer experiences at scale,” wrote Microsoft EVP, Jason Zander.

Azure Operator Call Protection leverages AI for real-time analysis of voice content to prevent scams. Currently, the BT Group is in the trial phase of using the new capability.

In addition to its announcements, Microsoft is participating in several sessions at the event including ones about Open Gateway, AI transformation, and the company’s long range strategy.
