Microsoft to launch new Dynamics 365 apps for AI, mixed-reality

Microsoft is preparing to launch its first mixed-reality business application, as well as a line of Dynamics 365 AI apps.

Speaking before press and analysts in San Francisco, Alysa Taylor, corporate vice president for Business Applications and Industry at Microsoft, shared the company's mixed reality approach with Dynamics 365 Remote Assist and Dynamics 365 Layout.

According to Taylor, Microsoft has gathered feedback from customers since the launch of HoloLens two years ago. "We recognize that many employees need information in context to apply their knowledge and craft. Not only on a 2-D screen — but information and data in context, at the right place, and at the right time, so employees can produce even greater impact for their organizations. Mixed reality is a technology uniquely suited to do exactly that," she stated.

Microsoft has also published short videos showing a bit of both the Layout and Remote Assist solutions.  Neither video shows the mixed reality apps touching any existing Dynamics 365 solutions, but the company has stated that Remote Assiste will integrate with Dynamics 365 for Field Service and connect with the Common Data Service.

Mixed reality is seen as a way to help inexperienced first-line workers get up to speed or workers of any experience resolve problems. Particularly as many industries experience widespread retirement of knowledgeable employees, mixed reality allows remaining senior employees to share institutional knowledge more efficiently.
