Microsoft General Manager Omar Khan looked into the ways customers can migrate Windows Server to Azure. By moving these workloads to Azure, customers can receive discounts from Microsoft, improve security, and implement more hybrid systems. According to Khan, Microsoft is approaching Windows Server migration from the wider vantage point of cloud skills with vouchers tied to the Cloud Skills Challenge, the upcoming Microsoft Virtual Training Day, and new Applied Skills training courses.

Redis, a major provider of in-memory data storage offerings announced a transition in its open source licensing approach, moving away from the BSD 3-Clause License to a dual license model. This gives developers a choice between the Redis Source Available License version 2 and the Server Side License version 1.

“Our ongoing collaboration ensures that Azure customers can seamlessly utilize all tiers of Azure Cache for Redis. There will be no interruption to Azure Cache for Redis, Azure Cache for Redis Enterprise, and Enterprise Flash services and customers will receive timely updates and bug fixes to maintain optimal performance,” said Julia Liuson, Microsoft Developer Divison President, in a statement.

CVP Jeremy Winter discussed the business impact of migrating Red Hat Enterprise Linux to Azure. According to Winter, a recent survey conducted jointly by Microsoft and Red Hat found significant return on investment when using RHEL, particularly as a result of improved business continuity due to fewer outages. He encouraged customers not already using RHEL to explore its benefits like enhanced security and increased flexibility with SAP on Azure.

Microsoft announced that it has made its Retina cloud native container networking observability platform open source. The Azure Container Networking team continues to update the software to support containerized microservices, work with multiple software environments, and pair with existing apps without code changes.
