Commvault announced a new partnership with Skytap to offer data migration and protection for IBM i (AS/400) workloads hosted in Skytap on Azure. A wide range of industries like finance, retail, and entertainment use IBM i to host data on-prem.

Responding to high on-prem costs, the partnership aims to improve backup, recovery, and migration, according to the firms. The objective is to replace expensive mainframe backup options and use Commvault Command Center.

In June 2020 Commvault announced a multi-year agreement with Microsoft to integrate its Metallic SaaS data protection portfolio with Azure and increase efforts in the Microsoft channel. In September, the company announced the launch of eDiscovery and GDPR compliance tooling for Metallic SaaS.
